Select the Appropriate Compound
Each cognitive peptide has distinct mechanisms: Selank is a synthetic tuftsin analog with anxiolytic and cognitive effects mediated through GABA modulation and BDNF upregulation. Semax is an ACTH(4-10) analog that enhances BDNF/NGF expression and modulates dopaminergic and serotonergic systems. Dihexa is an angiotensin IV analog with potent HGF/c-Met pathway activation. Choose based on your specific research objectives.
Tips
- • Selank and Semax are commonly studied via intranasal administration in published literature
- • Dihexa is typically studied via subcutaneous injection due to its extremely low effective doses
Prepare Intranasal Solution (Selank/Semax)
For intranasal administration, reconstitute the peptide to a concentration that delivers your target dose in a standard nasal spray volume. A typical nasal spray atomizer delivers ~0.1 mL per spray. For Selank (typical dose 250-500 mcg): reconstitute at 2.5-5 mg/mL for 250-500 mcg per spray. Transfer to a clean nasal spray bottle using a sterile syringe.
Ensure the nasal spray device is sterile and appropriate for peptide solutions
Tips
- • Nasal spray atomizers are available from laboratory supply vendors
- • Intranasal delivery provides rapid absorption and bypasses first-pass hepatic metabolism
Dosing from Published Research
Published dosing ranges: Selank — 250-750 mcg intranasal, 1-3x daily. Semax — 200-600 mcg intranasal, 1-3x daily. Dihexa — 0.5-2 mg subcutaneous, 1x daily. These ranges are derived from human clinical studies (Selank, Semax) and preclinical research (Dihexa). Start at the lower end of the published range.
Tips
- • Selank and Semax have extensive human clinical data from Russian pharmaceutical studies
- • Dihexa is extremely potent — it was shown to be active at picomolar concentrations in vitro
Administer the Peptide
For intranasal peptides: clear nasal passages gently before administration. Tilt the head slightly forward, insert the spray nozzle into one nostril, aim toward the outer wall (not the septum), and depress once. Repeat in the other nostril if using split dosing. For subcutaneous peptides: follow the Subcutaneous Injection Technique Protocol.
Estimated time: 2 minutes
Tips
- • Alternate nostrils if administering multiple sprays per dose
- • Avoid blowing your nose for 15 minutes after intranasal administration
Cycling Schedule
Cognitive peptide research protocols commonly employ cycling schedules to maintain receptor sensitivity and evaluate effects. Common patterns: 3 weeks on / 1 week off, or 5 days on / 2 days off. Selank and Semax clinical studies in Russia typically ran 14-30 day courses. Document the cycling schedule consistently.
Tips
- • Regular breaks help distinguish genuine cognitive effects from placebo or adaptation
- • Use the off-cycle period to establish baseline cognitive measurements for comparison
Cognitive Tracking
To meaningfully evaluate cognitive effects, establish baseline measurements before beginning the research protocol. Track: working memory (digit span tests), reaction time (online tools), verbal fluency, anxiety levels (standardized questionnaires), sleep quality (duration, subjective quality), and subjective cognitive performance (daily journal). Standardized testing should occur at the same time of day under consistent conditions.
Tips
- • Free online tools like Cambridge Brain Sciences or Quantified Mind provide standardized cognitive tests
- • Test at the same time of day to control for circadian cognitive fluctuations
- • Keep a daily journal of subjective cognitive experience for qualitative data
